Alexandre Marie Guillemin was born in Paris on October 15, 1817. He exhibited his works at the Paris Salon from 1840 and won medals in 1841 and 1845. He was also awarded the Légion d’honneur in 1861.
Guillemin painted mainly genre scenes and favoured subjects being those of peasant and playful life scenes, but also painted the Bourgeoisie, mainly from the Breton region.
He died in the Commune of Bois-le-Roi in France on October 24, 1880.
Guillemin’s works are exhibited at museums in Montreal, Toulon, Le Havre and Baltimore.
